Altamont is a town in Deuel County, South Dakota. The population was 34 at the 2010 census.
Altamont is located on State Route 15 about 6 miles (9.7 km) north of the city of Clear Lake.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.4 km2), all of it land.
As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 34 people, 16 households, and 10 families residing in the town. The population density was 26.9 people per square mile (10.4/km²). There were 18 housing units at an average density of 14.2 per square mile (5.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 100.00% White.
There were 16 households out of which 25.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.0% were married couples living together, 6.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.5% were non-families. 31.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.13 and the average family size was 2.70.
In the town the population was spread out with 23.5% under the age of 18, 2.9% from 18 to 24, 41.2% from 25 to 44, 17.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 years of age or older.
